A bit of a question.

It's been a while since I've been to ol' seashore and I may have let myself go just a wee bit. What with all the sobbing and looking for jobs and comfort eating--it's decidedly possible that I may have packed on a few pounds :-) S'alright though, because it's the beeeeeeach!
In other news, I've started my fic forhd_career_fair and it's going pretty well so far. The words are a-flyin, but I'm not sure if they're the best words in the best order. In any case, I'm going to need a beta some time, I think and I'm relatively new at this. A few questions: How early should I ask someone to beta my fic? How many people should I ask? If I'm a bit of a lurker and don't have any super strong ties to anyone on the journal in particular, who should I ask? I know who I want to ask, but they're all sort of superstars to me, as anyone who can write well is a superstar to me and I'm a bit hesitant about asking them. So it goes. I'll prolly ask anyway :-) Just sort of need to know if there's any sort of proceedure to this.
Can anyone fill me in?
